Bascombe International carry out surveillance for an employee absenteeism case

Client:

Housing association in Hampshire

Background:

The client had an employee who had been signed off work for a long period of time with an injured arm. However, they had received reports from other members of staff that the employee had been working elsewhere during his absence.

As a result of these suspicions, Bascombe International was appointed by the Head of Legal to gather evidence to prove whether the employee was, in fact, working whilst he was on long-term sick leave, despite the fact he was ‘not fit to work’.

Solution:

Bascombe International appointed agents to carry out surveillance on the employee.

The operation took place over several days, during a 2-week period, and ceased when the employee was captured on video working at a private site in Portsmouth where a house was being renovated.

Result:

Bascombe International submitted the surveillance footage to the client who was then able to start disciplinary proceedings to facilitate dismissal.

The client was delighted with the outcome. The footage provided sufficient evidence to conclude that the employee in question had been falsely claiming he was unable to work, whilst claiming benefits and working elsewhere.

Feedback:

“Due to our concerns about this employee we instructed Bascombe to undertake surveillance, in line with GDPR and all other legislation. Our suspicions were vilified by Bascombe obtaining sufficient evidence to prove the employee was indeed working whilst claiming to be ‘unfit to do so’. Excellent work.”
